What is Penetration Testing?

For institutions one of the most important steps of cyber security is to take measures against penetration of external elements. The process of performing security tests to detect weaknesses and vulnerabilities of information systems in order to prevent exploits by malicious individuals and make systems more secure is called Penetration Testing. 

Why Pen-Testing Should Be Done?

Types of Penetration Testing​

There are no limits to the techniques that attackers use to exploit owned systems. Black Box

​

There is no prior information about the systems in which the penetration test is to be carried out. Our team tries to infiltrate the system through the eyes of an attacker. In this method, the information gathering phase takes quite some time because the test team has no prior knowledge about the system. Black Box penetration testing is the most time consuming pen-test type.

Grey Box

There is limited information on the systems on which the testing is to be done, some information such as the IP address list is provided to the test team in advance. The test takes less time than the Black Box method because the desired systems are known. With this test, it is aimed to test the damage that users with low authority in the organization can give to systems. It is the most important and most common type of penetration testing.

White Box

All information about the systems on which the penetration test is to be performed and the technologies that are running on the background are provided to the test team. In this method it is possible to conduct deep and comprehensive tests in a short period of time since all information is available. Compared to the Black Box technique, it provides greater benefits to the institution or company.
